PORTSMOUTH, R.I. (WLNE) — One local pup went for an unwanted swim Tuesday morning in a country club pond and needed an assist to get out.

The dog entered the pond at Montaup Country Club around 8 a.m. and struggled to get out before Lieutenant Khubchandani of the Portsmouth Police Department arrived at the scene.

He broke through the pond’s ice and waded into the freezing water, pulling the dog to safety and a reunion with her owner.

According to Portsmouth Animal Control, the dog is doing well thanks to Lieutenant Khubchandani’s efforts.
