Winter weather has arrived in Southern New England. We are starting the day with a snow shower and some light rain/freezing rain in western Rhode Island. Be careful as you’re getting on the roads, as untreated surfaces could prove to be slippery!

Mid/late morning, showers begin across Southern New England, becoming more widespread through the afternoon and evening. Expect a very soggy evening commute. Generally speaking, we’ll see roughly an inch of rain by the time the day is done, with some local areas closer to, if not past 1.5″ of rain. In terms of snow? We could see snow showers on the tail end of this storm tonight, which would give northern Providence County some very light accumulations (less than an inch overall).

The biggest impact here will be for commuters. Considering the rainy conditions and slick roadways overall, you’ll want to leave extra time to get out the door this morning, and in the evening as well. Highs today will be in the low 40s. Overnight, temperatures hover near freezing, allowing for the leftovers of today’s precipitation to freeze in spots. Make sure you’re using caution as you head out on Wednesday morning as well, as there may be some icy spots on untreated roads.

Wednesday afternoon will be mostly sunny with highs around 40 degrees. We’ll keep highs near 40 Thursday as well, but a cold front will drive a few more clouds (though no precipitation). After that front passes, temperatures absolutely plummet! Expect highs in the upper 20s/low 30s on Friday afternoon… a good 15+ degrees below average for this time of year!

Stay weather aware!
