NEWPORT, R.I. (AP) — A capability crowd of about 10,000 individuals braved warmth and humidity to witness the seventieth anniversary of the Newport Jazz Competition, one of many largest music festivals in New England.
The competition, which ends Sunday, can be one of many largest multi-day jazz festivals on the earth. It has introduced legions of individuals to the coastal Rhode Island group over the a long time. Held at Fort Adams State Park, festivalgoers benefited from a cool ocean breeze, a sprinkling of rain and misting followers.
Performers at this 12 months’s competition included Elvis Costello, Meshell Ndegeocello, Dinner Celebration and Samara Pleasure. Over time, the competition has welcomed Muddy Waters, Tito Puente, Isaac Hayes, Dizzy Gillespie and dozens of others. Gillespie recorded a 1957 stay album on the competition.
