NEWPORT, R.I. (AP) — A capability crowd of about 10,000 folks braved warmth and humidity to witness the seventieth anniversary of the Newport Jazz Pageant, one of many largest music festivals in New England.
The pageant, which ends Sunday, can also be one of many greatest multi-day jazz festivals on the earth. It has introduced legions of individuals to the coastal Rhode Island group over the many years. Held at Fort Adams State Park, festivalgoers benefited from a cool ocean breeze, a sprinkling of rain and misting followers.
Performers at this 12 months’s pageant included Elvis Costello, Meshell Ndegeocello, Dinner Get together and Samara Pleasure. Over time, the pageant has welcomed Muddy Waters, Tito Puente, Isaac Hayes, Dizzy Gillespie and dozens of others. Gillespie recorded a 1957 dwell album on the pageant.
