Bridge closed

The Blackstone Division of Public Works is advising neighboring North Smithfield residents that the Bridge Avenue bridge will probably be closed beginning Monday, June 9 for a development challenge that may take three weeks to finish. Detours will probably be in place and people hoping to entry the Greenway/bike path parking space can accomplish that from St. Paul Avenue.

Questions will be directed to the Blackstone DPW at (508) 883-9331.

Emmy win

Slatersville: America’s First Mill Village was a winner at the 48th Regional Boston/New England Emmys, with Christian de Rezendes named Best Director of Long Form Content and Stephen Gilbane taking home the prize for Best Musical Composition/Arrangement. de Rezendes was also nominated in the Editing category, but did not take home the win.

“I could not be more proud of our team for these nominations and wins,” de Rezendes told NRI NOW this week. “This is my first craft Emmy and Steve’s second Emmy for his incredible score.”

With the recent awards the series has three Emmy wins and five nominations, along with two Bronze Telly Awards for Documentary Series for Television and History for Television. It also received a second Lighthouse Spotlight Award from the Block Island Film Festival in May.

The final season of the docu-series, to include episodes 9, 10 and 11, is now in production.

Pantry dates

The North Smithfield Food Pantry has announced that pickup dates in June will take place on Tuesdays, June 17 and 24 starting at 5:30 p.m. and Saturdays, June 21 and 28 starting 10 a.m.

The Food Pantry is open to North Smithfield residents who must have a photo ID and a bill that confirms their address. Guests can attend the pantry all open dates each month at the Slatersville Congregational Church UCC on the Common at 25 Green St.

For the month of June, the pantry is seeking donations of canned soup, spaghetti sauce and canned beans.

Questions can be directed to (401) 678-0356.

Scoops, songs & slices

Wright’s Dairy Farm & Bakery at 200 Woonsocket Hill Road will host Scoops, Songs & Slices for Dad on Saturday, June 14 from 4:30 to 7:30 p.m., an evening featuring  live music, pizza, and handcrafted ice cream. Visitors are invited to bring a blanket or lawn chair and enjoy some food and music by Black Plain Road.

Lane closures

Starting at 9 p.m. on Saturday, June 14, the Rhode Island Department of Transportation will temporarily close access to the Sayles Hill Road intersection for drivers on Route 146 South in North Smithfield. The closure will be in place until noontime on Sunday, June 15, and will allow RIDOT to safely lift steel beams as part of its ongoing construction of the new flyover bridge at Sayles Hill Road.

The following restrictions and suggested detours will be in place:

Route 146 South to Sayles Hill Road eastbound (toward Manville) – Detour by remaining on Route 146 and reversing direction at the next exit for I-295, then using the right lane at the Sayles Hill Road intersection to access Sayles Hill Road eastbound.

Route 146 South to Sayles Hill Road westbound (toward Iron Mine Road) – Drivers should use the ramp to Sayles Hill Road approximately 1 mile prior to the signalized Sayles Hill Road intersection adjacent to the Subaru dealership.

Route 146 North to Sayles Hill Road westbound (toward Iron Mine Road) – Detour by remaining on Route 146 North and use the Route 104 interchange to reverse direction on Route 146 South, then take the ramp to Sayles Hill Road approximately 1 mile prior to the signalized Sayles Hill Road intersection.

Route 146 North making a U-turn to Route 146 South – Detour by remaining on Route 146 and U-turn at the Route 146A interchange.
Local access will be maintained for properties along the southbound service road adjacent to Route 146. Route 146 North through traffic will not be affected.
