7th grader dedicates Feinstein grant to the Assembly Theatre

BURRILLVILLE – An area seventh grader selected the Meeting Theatre in Burrillville because the recipient of a grant that she received just lately from the Feinstein Junior Scholar Basis.

Katherine Smith, 13, who attends Good Shepard Faculty in Woonsocket, made the donation throughout the intermission of “The Lion King ” on Sunday, a play wherein she portrayed Scar.

“I needed to donate it right here as a result of I like how the Meeting offers everybody an opportunity to get their very own half,” Smith stated. “They’re actually welcoming. It should be onerous to handle a theatre.”

Smith, who has been energetic within the theatre for 3 years, stated she is keen on pursuing a future within the performing arts.

“It’s fairly an honor for us,” stated Tom Tatro, a member of the board of administrators for the theatre. “We’re humbled and grateful and proud for this donation, particularly because it’s from somebody who has come right here and approves of what we do.”

The Feinstein Basis has a Golden Ticket program for all college students at every of the colleges in its program, stated Jennifer Deoliveira, principal of Good Shepard Faculty. There are raffles with winners on the finish of the week who obtain $2,000 for his or her faculty and $500 for the group of their selection, she stated.

“[Smith] received, and he or she is an enormous a part of the Meeting Theatre. She needed to provide again to thank them,” Deoliveira stated.

Deoliveira offered the $500 to Tatro on stage with Smith. 

“Nearly 100 years in the past a mill proprietor and philanthropist gave this theater as a present to the city of Burrillville,” Tatro stated. “For the upcoming 100 yr celebration now we have some grant cash to do a model new stage flooring. Enhancements proceed on a regular basis.”

The donation “is actually humbling,” he stated. “Thanks very a lot.”
