Department of Health warns of overdose spike in northwest RI

PROVIDENCE – The Rhode Island Division of Well being issued an overdose spike alert this week for elevated non-fatal opioid overdose exercise within the communities of Burrillville, Foster, Glocester, and Scituate, generally known as Area 1.

In accordance with a launch from the company, an overdose spike alert is issued when a municipality or area experiences a higher-than-usual variety of non-fatal overdoses inside seven days.

RIDOH notes that the overdose threshold is three within the four-town area, and from Friday, March 28 to Thursday, April 3, that quantity was exceeded, though fewer than 5 have been reported. The overdose exercise reportedly exceeds historic information for the area and meets the standards for an overdose spike alert.

The information is monitored each day by RIDOH’s non-fatal overdose Built-in Surveillance System, which tracks non-fatal, opioid overdose tendencies, regional sizzling spots, and emergency medical care utilization.
 
RIDOH notes that the drug provide continues to contribute to a public well being disaster, and that illicit fentanyl continues to dominate the drug provide, and has been detected in substances equivalent to cocaine, crack cocaine, methamphetamine, and counterfeit drugs. Tablets obtained from sources apart from a pharmacy ought to be assumed to have fentanyl.
