PROVIDENCE, R.I. (AP) — Cybercriminals may launch private knowledge of many Rhode Islanders as early as this upcoming week in a significant cyberattack that hit the state’s on-line system for delivering well being and human companies advantages, Gov. Daniel McKee stated.

The hackers are demanding a ransom, officers stated with out elaborating.

The state urged Rhode Islanders to take motion to guard their private data, which can embody names, addresses, dates of delivery, Social Safety numbers and sure banking data.

Anybody who has been concerned in Medicaid, the Supplemental Diet Help Program referred to as SNAP, Non permanent Help for Needy Households, Childcare Help Program, Rhode Island Works, Lengthy-term Companies and Helps, the At HOME Value Share Program and medical health insurance bought by way of HealthSource RI could also be impacted, McKee stated Saturday.

The system referred to as RIBridges was taken offline on Friday, after the state was knowledgeable by its vendor, Deloitte, that there was a significant safety menace to the system.
